Have you ever wondered what it truly means to think like Christ? This concept is often described as “the mind of Christ.”

When I got serious about my Christian walk one of the first things the Holy Spirit convicts me about is my thoughts and actions.

I always ask myself whenever I have a bad thought, “Is this thought glorifying God?” Most times it doesn’t.

But you can imagine how difficult this is especially when your mind is always busy.

The mind of Christ will shift how you perceive the world and interact with others.

What is the mind of Christ

Have you ever considered what it truly means to possess “the mind of Christ“?

This concept isn’t just about thinking like Jesus; it’s about embodying His qualities.

The Bible offers amazing insights into understanding the mind of Christ.

For instance, in 1 Corinthians 2:16, the Apostle Paul asks, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” He then shares some great news: “We can have the mind of Christ.”

Isn’t that wonderful?

Another Bible verse that shows this is possible is Philippians 2:5, urging believers, “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”

Characteristics of the Mind of Christ

Humility

You’ll find humility at its core, as demonstrated in Philippians 2:7-8, where Christ humbles Himself, taking on the nature of a servant.

“rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!”

Do you have humility? The opposite of humility is pride. So, if you have pride, then that is a sign that you are struggling to have humility.

Obedience

You cannot have the mind of Christ without being obedient.

Christ’s had an unwavering commitment to God’s will, even unto death (Philippians 2:8).

Are you willing and dedicated to follow God’s path, especially when it diverges from personal desires?

Start reflecting on your willingness to follow the Lord.

Love

God is love. So the list wouldn’t be completed without adding this attribute.

Love is a force that drives compassion and selflessness reflecting the essence of the mind of Christ.

In 1 John 4:8, we read, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

Love empowers us to put others before ourselves, as exemplified by Jesus in John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Through love, we express patience, kindness, and humility, aligning with Paul’s description in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

The love of Christ moves us to act with grace and mercy when dealing with others.

Say you came to know the Lord at the age of 30, it’s going to take some time to renew your mind. Changing a habit takes dedication, but the transformation it brings is rewarding.

Let’s explore the steps to developing a Christ-centered mindset.

Meditate Upon The Word

This means you’ll study and ponder upon the Word. There is no way you can renew your mind without meditating on the Word of God.

Romans 12:2 emphasizes this transformation: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Through consistent meditation, we align our thoughts with the mind of Christ.

In Joshua 1:8, we are reminded, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.”

Prayer and Reflection

Prayer and reflection go hand in hand. Through sincere reflection on your life, you gain insight into areas needing improvement.

Psalm 139:23-24: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Through prayer, we seek God’s guidance, wisdom, and strength to address these areas. Reflection, coupled with prayer, illuminates the path to spiritual growth.

Community and Fellowship

Just as iron sharpens iron, surrounding yourself with fellow believers provides vital support, encouragement, and accountability.

Fellowship strengthens our faith as we share experiences, challenges, and victories, bringing each other closer to the likeness of Christ.

In Hebrews 10:24-25, believers are urged: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing but encouraging one another.”
